Dante Guzzi has been making music under the name Fernospazzin since 2019. His records have since crossed a billion streams — “Vampiro” with Matu\u00ea, “3AM” with NBA YoungBoy, “No No No” with A Boogie wit da Hoodie and Flipp Dinero. By any measure, he’s had a serious run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But he’ll be the first to tell you he doesn’t want to be defined by any of it. His broader view is that a producer’s sound should evolve as they do — that self-awareness and art aren’t separate things, they feed each other. He and a close friend have a word for that state of alignment: tapt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We sat down with Ferno to talk about the NLE Choppa moment that opened everything up, why he resists the idea of a fixed signature sound, and what being tapt actually looks like in practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q:<\/strong> Everyone\u2019s got that one track that changed everything for them. Which placement or record felt like a turning point in your career? What made it so significant for you?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ferno<\/strong>: <\/em>In December 2019, I opened Instagram one afternoon, and NLE Choppa<\/em><\/a><\/span> had posted a video in the studio rapping over my beat. At the time, it felt like the confirmation I needed that the effort I\u2019d put into sharing my work thoughtfully had started to open doors I hadn\u2019t even imagined. That moment showed me that success isn\u2019t just about working as hard as possible – it\u2019s about giving your all while moving intelligently and adeptly. Since then I\u2019ve never looked back and my outlook on what’s possible has expanded tremendously. I don\u2019t like to count out any possibility these days.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Q<\/strong>: Producers often talk about having a \u2018signature sound\u2019. How would you describe yours, and do you consciously try to shape it, or is it something that just naturally happens over time?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ferno<\/strong>: <\/em>I\u2019ve gone back and forth on whether or not I have a \u2018signature sound\u2019 and what that even means. This question is deeply connected to my own journey of personal growth. To be blunt, I don\u2019t know if I\u2019ll ever have just one \u2018signature sound\u2019 – my sound evolves, matures, and shifts as I do. If anything, when looking back at different periods of my work, certain stylistic elements may emerge, but they\u2019re always tied to where I am at that moment in life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve come to believe that being self-reflective is essential – not just in art, but in life. Working on yourself as a person, being on a continuous path of growth, through all the highs and lows, directly feeds your creativity. It sharpens your perspective and expands your capacity to create something real. When you\u2019re truly in tune with yourself, you develop what I consider a sixth sense, a heightened awareness that allows you to observe, absorb, and express with clarity. As a result, some semblance of a \u2018sound\u2019 can be born. This is the essence of what me and a great friend of mine describe as being \u2018tapt\u2019: a state of deep self-awareness where your personal evolution and your art are inseparable, feeding off each other in a powerful, almost intuitive way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another great friend of mine said it best: \u201cSelf-reflecting and working towards that goal (whatever it may be) is the only way to progress in life. As you self reflect you realize that certain things directly affect your goals and you might not even realize it till you make the change. You don\u2019t know what you don\u2019t know\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, being tapt<\/strong> is realizing exactly that – and using it to create something honest.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
