Alejandro Villarreal Miranda grew up in Monterrey, Mexico, downloading GarageBand on an iPod at 13 because EDM made him want to know how sounds were made. He’s been working at it seriously for four years. He’s only been on WAVS for six months — and his packs connected almost immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He goes by Vlex, plays guitar, co-produced a record with Blxst and Joony, and has a straightforward view on what separates producers who develop a real sound from ones who don’t: learn an instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We talked about how his musicianship shapes his samples, what’s in his processing chain, and how he thinks about turning production into a career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: First, a brief introduction: who\u2019s Vlex, tell us a bit about yourself.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Vlex:<\/strong> Vlex comes from my nickname Alex. My real name is Alejandro Villarreal Miranda, born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. My passion for music started when I was 13. I listened to lots of EDM<\/a><\/span> and was fascinated by how they could bring those amazing sounds to life. So I downloaded Garageband<\/a><\/span> on my iPod 5<\/a><\/span> and started making my own instrumentals.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
