Spiff is an adaptive transient processor from Oeksound, released in 2018 by the same developer behind Soothe. Where Soothe2 hunts resonances, Spiff hunts transients. It analyses the incoming signal through spectral analysis, works out when and where a transient occurs, and cuts or boosts it with dynamic, frequency-aware filters instead of fixed crossovers, which sidesteps the phase-smearing and band-splitting artifacts of conventional multiband transient designers. Because detection is frequency-specific, you can tame only the harsh top-end spike of a hit while leaving its body intact, or add crack to a snare without a full parallel-compression chain. Its reputation is as a precise, slightly technical problem-solver for clicky consonants, stabbing pick attack, brittle cymbals and dull snares.
Source Oeksound's own testimonials page carries signed, credited quotes for Spiff specifically. Hip-hop-relevant entries: Lamont Sincere (Wiz Khalifa, Lil Yachty, GloRilla) - 'Spiff just gets it'; Teezio (Lil Nas X, Victoria Monet, Gunna) - 'I use spiff a lot to cut mouth noises and high frequency issues'; Vaughn Oliver (Nicki Minaj, Khalid). DROELOE names an album. The same page also carries Spiff testimonials from James F Reynolds (BTS, Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa), Alan Meyerson (Hans Zimmer, John Powell), Rik Simpson (Coldplay, Jay-Z) and Adam 'Nolly' Getgood (Periphery).
