9th Wonder is an American record producer born Patrick Denard Douthit on January 15, 1975, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He came to prominence as the producer for the group Little Brother, whose 2003 debut The Listening earned critical acclaim in the independent hip-hop scene.
He produced 'Threat' on Jay-Z's The Black Album in 2003 and has worked with Destiny's Child, Murs, Mary J. Blige, and Erykah Badu, among others. He founded the Jamla Records label and leads the Soul Council production team. He has also lectured on hip-hop history at Duke University and North Carolina Central University and held a fellowship at Harvard.
His production centers on soul-sampled boom bap, built from chopped vocal and instrumental loops over steady drums. He is known for working primarily in FL Studio.
