Darkchild is the production alias of Rodney Roy Jerkins, born July 29, 1977, in Pleasantville, New Jersey. He began producing at age 12 and was mentored by a family friend in local studios. By his late teens, he had landed his first major placements and quickly became one of the most sought-after R&B and pop producers of the late 1990s and 2000s.

Jerkins' credits include Brandy and Monica's 'The Boy Is Mine' (No. 1, 13 weeks), Destiny's Child's 'Say My Name' (No. 1, Grammy for Best R&B Song), Michael Jackson's 'You Rock My World' from Invincible, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton's 'He Wasn't Man Enough,' Jennifer Lopez's 'If You Had My Love,' Lady Gaga's 'Telephone,' and Beyonce. He has produced over 100 million records sold worldwide.

His production style is characterized by intricate drum programming, layered vocal arrangements, and bass-heavy R&B grooves that defined the sound of late 1990s and early 2000s urban pop. He launched the Darkchild brand as both a production alias and a collective of writers and producers.
