Dr. Dre is an American record producer and rapper born Andre Romelle Young on February 18, 1965, in Compton, California. He first gained recognition as a member of N.W.A, whose 1988 album Straight Outta Compton helped establish West Coast gangsta rap. His 1992 solo debut The Chronic popularized the G-funk sound and became one of the most influential hip-hop albums of the era.
Dre co-founded Death Row Records and later founded Aftermath Entertainment. He produced Snoop Dogg's debut Doggystyle, which entered the Billboard 200 at number one in 1993, and went on to sign and produce Eminem and 50 Cent, shaping their breakthrough albums The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP, and Get Rich or Die Tryin'. He co-founded Beats Electronics with Jimmy Iovine, which Apple acquired in 2014.
