Kanye West is an American record producer and rapper born Kanye Omari West on June 8, 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He gained early recognition producing for Roc-A-Fella Records, notably on Jay-Z's 2001 album The Blueprint, which featured his sped-up soul production on tracks such as 'Izzo (H.O.V.A.).'

His 2004 solo debut The College Dropout established him as a leading artist. He has produced for Jay-Z, Common, Talib Kweli, Alicia Keys, and many others, and founded the GOOD Music label. He has won numerous Grammy Awards over his career.

His early production was defined by sped-up soul samples paired with crisp drums, often called chipmunk soul. His sound later expanded into 808-driven, electronic, and gospel-influenced production across his albums.
