About

Lil Jon is an American record producer born Jonathan Smith on January 27, 1971, in Atlanta, Georgia. As frontman of Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, he helped popularize the crunk subgenre, breaking through with the 2003 single 'Get Low' with the Ying Yang Twins, which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

He produced Usher's 2004 number-one single 'Yeah!' and Ciara's 'Goodies,' among other hits, becoming one of the defining producers of mid-2000s Southern hip-hop and pop.

His crunk production is built on booming 808s, aggressive synth stabs, chant hooks, and hard, repetitive drums designed for clubs.
