Metro Boomin is the stage name of Leland Tyler Wayne, born September 16, 1993, in St. Louis, Missouri. He began producing at age 13 after his mother bought him a laptop with FL Studio. He moved to Atlanta to attend Morehouse College in 2012 and immediately began networking with local artists, reportedly visiting studios daily to hand out beats. His first major placement came with Future's "Karate Chop" in 2013, and he quickly became Future's primary producer.
His production catalog includes Future's DS2 and Monster, 21 Savage's Savage Mode (2016) and Savage Mode II (2020), Migos' "Bad and Boujee" (No. 1 Billboard Hot 100, 2017), and Drake's "Jumpman." In 2022, he released Heroes & Villains as a lead artist, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In 2023, his Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack featured production across the full film. His 2024 album We Don't Trust You with Future generated massive streaming numbers.
Metro's producer tag "Metro Boomin want some more, n---a" (voiced by Young Thug) is among the most recognized in hip-hop. He works primarily in FL Studio and is known for using orchestral and cinematic elements, dark atmospheric pads, heavy 808 patterns, and dramatic builds. He has won multiple Grammy Awards and is credited with popularizing the Atlanta trap sound globally.
