About

No I.D. is the production alias of Ernest Dion Wilson, born March 3, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois. He is Jay-Z's executive vice president of A&R at Def Jam Recordings and one of hip-hop's most respected behind-the-scenes producers. He mentored a teenage Kanye West in the art of sampling and production, effectively launching West's career.

No I.D.'s production credits include Common's early albums (Resurrection, One Day It'll All Make Sense), Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3 ('D.O.A.,' 'Run This Town'), 4:44 (executive produced the entire album), Kanye West's 'Gorgeous' and Yeezus contributions, Drake, and Rihanna. The Blueprint 3 track 'D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)' became a cultural statement.

He pioneered the use of soul sampling in Chicago hip-hop in the early 1990s, directly influencing the production style that Kanye West would later popularize globally. He is widely regarded as one of the architects of the Chicago production sound.

Signature Sound
No I.D. built the Chicago soul-sampling production template that Kanye West later brought mainstream, pairing chopped vintage soul and jazz samples with boom-bap drums to create warm, musically rich hip-hop instrumentals.
