Scott Storch is an American-Canadian record producer, songwriter, and musician born December 16, 1973, in Long Island, New York, and raised in Philadelphia. He is a classically trained pianist who joined The Roots as a touring keyboardist in the early 1990s before transitioning to production. He co-wrote and played keyboards on The Roots' "Proceed" and "What They Do." His first major production credit came with Dr. Dre's "Still D.R.E." (1999), for which he composed the iconic piano riff.
Storch became one of the most prolific pop and hip-hop producers of the mid-2000s, producing Chris Brown's "Run It!" (No. 1 Hot 100), 50 Cent's "Candy Shop" (No. 1), "Just a Lil Bit," and "Window Shopper," Terror Squad's "Lean Back" (No. 1), Beyonce's "Baby Boy" (No. 1) and "Me, Myself and I," T.I.'s "You Don't Know Me," Mario's "Let Me Love You," Lil Kim's "Lighters Up," and Chris Brown's "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)." He also produced Brooke Valentine's "Girlfight."
Storch's production is defined by melodic piano-driven arrangements with lush orchestral textures and hard-hitting drums. He plays piano live on his productions rather than programming. After financial difficulties in the late 2000s, he returned to active production in the 2010s, working with DJ Khaled, Tory Lanez, and others. He founded Storch Music Group and has over 50 million records sold worldwide.
