Tainy is the production alias of Marco Efraín Masís Fernández, born August 9, 1989, in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico. He began producing at age 12 using FL Studio after being inspired by Luny Tunes, the dominant reggaeton production duo of the early 2000s. He interned for Luny Tunes at age 15, learning their recording and mixing process firsthand. By 16, he was producing records independently for Puerto Rican artists.
Tainy's breakthrough came through his work with Bad Bunny, producing "I Like It" with Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin (No. 1 Hot 100, 2018) and multiple tracks across Bad Bunny's albums YHLQMDLG, El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo, and Un Verano Sin Ti. He produced J Balvin's Vibras, Daddy Yankee tracks, and Rosalia's "Con Altura." His production on Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti (2022) contributed to the album becoming the most-streamed album of 2022 globally on Spotify.
Tainy co-founded NEON16, a management and media company focused on Latin music, with Lex Borrero. He released his own project The Kids That Grew Up On Reggaeton (2023). His production merges reggaeton's dembow rhythms with trap hi-hats, R&B harmonics, and electronic textures, pushing Latin music into experimental territory while maintaining dancefloor accessibility.
Signature Sound
Tainy fuses reggaeton dembow rhythms with trap percussion, ambient synth textures, and pop melodic sensibility. His production pushes Latin urbano toward experimental territory while preserving dancefloor energy, layering distorted bass, atmospheric pads, and crisp digital percussion.
